A recent news scandal in China has been the purported discovery of fake steamed pork buns made out of minced corrugated cardboard, and the subsequent confession from the journalist that the story was falsified. But the scandal continues, because some bloggers now say the journalist was beaten up before confessing and doubts remain about an official cover-up.
A Japanese blogger has gone ahead and tried to replicate the buns, and you can judge the results for yourself. Click on the link below for the full set of photos. The aim is to disprove a similar government experiment that concludes the fake buns would be immediately obvious to diners and thus proving the fictitiousness of the original news story.
